Clinical Governance is a systematic approach to maintaining and improving the quality of patient care within an organisations operational delivery. The Coastguard Rescue Service provides casualty care as part of normal operations therefore clinical governance is appropriate to Coastal operations
While there is no specific legal requirement for clinical governance, it is recognized as the best tool for ensuring legal compliance, governance and operational effectiveness. This ensures the organisation is following best practice and provides protection for individuals and the organisation.
Gaps in our clinical governance provision present significant risk to HM Coastguard and the MCA, this review is required as a matter of urgency to identify initial mitigations and initiate longer term provision.
